Thread: Gas Cooktop regulator?

It sounds like the Cooktop hasnt been set to the correct pressure on the inlet. This is worked out by the maunufacturer and set by the plumber at installation time. Either at the cooktop or at the bottles.

Your LPG runs at 2.75 kpa, the air coming out of your mouth when you talk is about 5-10 kpa. So it stands to reason any minor adjustments make BIG changes. If your burner is not operating correctly get it looked at.

Other things can effect your cooktop like low volume in your bottle and cold temperatures outside. Also your pipes may be bloked.

Dont touch it.

This problem will be about the adjustment of the taps on the cooktop itself.

There is typically an adjustment for the burner controls to be able to deal with different gas supply pressures - most cooktops are set for expected supply pressures for natural gas. But LPG needs more to burn the same way. That's why the jets are bigger for LPG than natural gas.

However, unless you have the instruction manual for your cook top then I would, like Bricks, strongly advise not to fiddle with it. Get a plumber instead. The instruction manual should detail the adjustment process - I know mine does. See if you can get a copy from the manufacturer or off the web.

I neglected to read that your cook top is not a new item. the burner head may be partially bloked by oil or fat etc, the burner tops will just lift off the cooktop in most cases. If i ever have to clean them i put them into boiling water for a while to losen the gear inside and then brush with an old toothbrush to remove it. Do not stick anything in the holes eg coat hanger.
I chased it up today ( as lpg is not my strongest feild and remembered Lpg doesnt nescessarily have regulators on the appliances.

Dont mess with it. Thats it. LPG is more dangerous than natural gas IMO because it is heavier than air and therfore will collect around your house should you make it leak. Natural gas tends to disperse allot quicker.

sounds to me that someone has put the wrong regulater on the system ,ring a gas fitter !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to purchase a new gas bottle in the next few days, so I will have a chat to them and see who they recomend.

I will also have a look at the manual and the website, to see if there is something basic I am missing.

Other than that I will get a gas guy in to have a look.
