Reframing a lead light window
I was recently asked if I thought I could rebuild a old window frame which has mostly rotted away. I guess it shouldn't be to hard to make a replacement frame and with a bit of encouragement would take a crack at it.
You can see how the rot has come completely trough the uprights at the bottom. The exterior is completely rotted away.

My worry is removing the leadlight and refitting it without having it collapse. I have no idea how rigid or floppy it will be without the frame.
Any basic pointers??????
Also the bottom most square about 5cm square is broken and will need to be replaced, would that be expensive?…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

take out the bits of quad that hold it in.
There should not be anything holding it in apart from the quad around the edge.
Put a stiff mdf (12mm) board on the outside and let the top move forward out of the frame.
Lower it out with the board as a support behind it.
You can't pick it up in the middle and lay it down on its own (no support).
Re-install in reverse.
Or get this guy to do it all.

Ask for Brett and tell him your from the woodwork forums.
He made leadlights for 20 years and now does exactly what you need to do, remakes wooden window frames/doors.
He can fabricate the same profiles if it needs to match other windows and doors etc.
