painting over synthetic laminates
My mate has taken over a bar panelled in dark fake wood - acres of it, plastic-smooth. He wants to lighten up the joint with paint. Sanding the surfaces is not an attractive option. The bar, by the way, is in northern Italy, from which this message is coming.
In considering a sticking primer, my thoughts immediately went to Zinnser undercoats or one of the Penetrol products.
Are there any other ideas which he might consider?
Regards from the north

penetrol is the product i like to use but i don't think anything is 100% over shiny laminates and you'll have to apply an oil based product over the penetrol.
