Default Painting/varnishing fibreglass on a pool filter

My pool filter is wrapped with strands of fibreglass which is starting to fray, and is liable to cause nasty itching if I brush an arm or leg against it. I would like to paint or varnish it to stop this fraying process, but am not sure what would be the best product to use for this purpose. The filter is sheltered by a colorbond roof, but the sun shines on its sides at some times of day. I would be grateful for advice on this problem.

    Rocker,

    (I'll phone you later!),

I'm assuming that you have a fibreglass reinforced sand filter?

Paint with a bit of epoxy to control the glass, then the epoxy will need some UV protection. It seems to be a little known fact that normal flowcoat (which is a brushable gel-coat and probably what was used originally) will adhere to epoxy, so you could use that in the original colour, or just a bit of house paint would do.

    cheers,

    P
