Default Glass Gauge on steam boiler

A bloke down the road builds wooden boats, mainly clinker. He is currently trying to install a steam engine in one of his boats. Last try the glass gauge that measures the amount of water in the boiler blew apart.

He came to us because my wife is a glass bead maker but we couldn't help. He needs to know what sort of glass tubing would be used for this job. It has to withstand the temperature of superheated steam as well as at least 120 lbs of pressure.

The piece of glass tubing he had left over from the blow was very light, almost the weight and feel of plastic.

Does anybody have any idea of what this tubing would be.

    Thanks
    Don

I have no idea Don but there are plenty of steam boats around so the technology is there. May I suggest the NSW Wooden Boat Association as a good place to start?

Do a Google for Strath Steam. They make great steam engines for boats, and they are in South Australia.
