Cement Ceiling... What are my options?

My place has a cement ceiling that has an acoustic texture applied to it which I hate. I have been busy sanding it off with a sanding disk but I'm wondering what options are available to me after I'm finished.

I would like to have a plastered ceiling. Will plasterboard glue directly onto the concrete?
I have thought about using ceiling battens but I believe the ceiling is centimeter or two below normal height to start off with. I'd rather not drop it down any further if I can.

I would also like to change the position of the lights. This would be easy if I installed ceiling battens but probably harder if I attached plaster board directly to the concrete as this would mean someone would have to cut a channel into the ceiling to run the cables.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for me?

You really only have one option if you want a plasterboard ceiling, that is to batten it and screw up plasterboard.

You can use a 16mm furing channel on a (rondo Pt no 237) clip.

This clip can be fixed direct to the concrete using either a ramset gun or hammer drill with a suitable anchor.

The overall ceiling height will reduce by approx. 30mm.

This will give you the least amount of ceiling height reduction.

P.S. I agree the sprayed on vermiculite ceilings look shocking. Designed to make building costs cheap.

Btw I could not think of anything worse than sanding it off with a sanding disk.

I know it will just scape off when wet. Perhaps you could get an atomiser that is used for spraying fruit trees and with several applicatiions saturate it, with water and just scrape it off with a spade.

You would have to allow it time to soak right in.

Just got to be better than sanding it off.

Is that enough clearance to run cableing for some new lights. I was thinking or running some track lighting. Can this be done?

It would be tight I think. You can use a 28mm furing channel, that would give you a bit more room.
