Default automatic ignitor problem on gas oven

    Hi

I have a gas hotplate (westinghouse) and gas oven (Chef) both fairly old but in good working condition. For some time the automatic ignitor has not been working. On the hotplate it used to be that when you turned the element on it automatically lit. On the oven, you pressed one button to ignite and another button to turn the gas on. We have just been using a manual oven lighter (or a match) to get them working for years and it has been fine. But we have sold the house and thought we should fix it before the new owners move in. However, just wondering if anyone can give me some idea of how big a job this is likely to be, and whether it is something we can fix by easily. If it is going to cost a lot of money it may not be worth doing as the new owners will most likely get new appliances.
    Hope you can help, Roberta

You might find the ignition runs on a 9v battery, usually located behind the panel where the gas cocks are or behind the kick panel.
If not it will be an electrical fault, one of the sparkies here might be able to help.

    Don't worry about it Roberta,
It's not a 5 min job and a new igniter (if that's what it needs) is not cheap.
It's nice that you want to fix it for the new owners but if it's a problem for them they can get it repaired or replace the appliances as you said.
Those were the droids I was looking for.
