Default Pressure pump cycling more often

Hi, we have one of those pumps with a pressure switch on top that supplies the house water from tanks. It has started cutting in a lot more often like there’s a leak somewhere but we can’t find any leaks, no dripping taps etc.

Could it be the pressure switch is on the way out? I think the unit is about 7 years old. It did have a period of sitting idle for a year at one stage too.

    Any ideas?

In the pressure switch between the pressure switch mechanism and the pump there is a non return valve.

This valve may be leaking due to some dirt being trapped and it will cause the pressure to drop and the pump run to build it back up.

If you can't pull it apart to clean the valve you can install a new one between the pump and switch.

You've probably checked the air pressure in the reservoir bladder?

This is at the neighbours house.

Bohdan, thanks for that. Electricity is off here today so it’s a bit hard. I’m going to turn off dunny tap cos sometimes they leak without being visible but you’ve given me something else to check , thanks.

Aldav, it’s one of the ones with what looks like an electronic business on top, didn’t think they had air in them? I remember the ones that had a big sorta basketball sized reservoir on top, it’s not one of them.
