Thumbs up Thanks and the fruition of my hard work and good advice.

    Fellow forumites,

Back in mid November I posted a thread about building a deck on a sloping concrete base. Well, that deck is finished and before I attach the pics I wanted to sincerely thank anyone who viewed the thread and tried to help but couldn't and to those more experienced who could offer advice or had an idea, I thank you.

I learnt heaps on this job. From better ways to lay decking and getting around sticky spots to working with uneven areas and non square areas. I have to tell you that the water level is brilliant - hey it worked for the Egyptians and those triangular things are still standing.

Anyway, the client is absolutely rapt and hence the little deck around the tree - https://www.woodworkforums.com/f349/bracing-treated-pine-sleepers-66178

The client still has to lay tiles and paving at the front of the deck so I'll trim it off once that's done.

Enjoy the pics and once again, thanks.

    Dr - 307.

By the way the panaramic style pic on the end is a little skewed but at least gives an idea of the work area. The area is actually much wider than that.

All decks should be stained....black white black white black white.......after all it would match anything!
All roofs should be covered or tiled.....black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond, silver mist, black colorbond.........after all, we wouldn't want a mismatch!

    Cheers guys.

The guy who's building the pool asked me to build the deck for him at this job he's got in Hoppers Crossing in Melbourne's West. I chickened out. Made a whole lot of excuses. Wife's still off at me. Everyone who's seen it loves it. I suppose repeat work is the best form of flattery so that's what I've got.

I finally found the disc which allowed me to download the earlier pics from my wife's (hot pink ) Motorola Razrv3x. Not bad for 2megapixle.
Here is a pic of the room I had to work with when using the dingo to remove the rubble.

And a pic which shows the area along the fence which I had to clean up and remove the paving and concrete underneath.

I suggested that we deck the area in the background level with the height of the pool so that he's walking from the deck I just completed, along the fence on a boardwalk and then on to a sundeck on the pool's edge. He likes the idea and will get me to do it once I complete this - https://www.woodworkforums.com/f349/bracing-treated-pine-sleepers-66178

Thanks for the positive feedback. I am very proud especially as it's the first time I've done the 'boxed in' style steps.

    Cheers,
    Dr - 307.

If the ladies like it then all the better. They're the ones with real taste (read that I have a wife and two daughters. There, I declared my bias).

Wendy, you should know that my wife helped drill the holes for the post supports. She used my (meaning our) cordless Impact Wrench to do up all the bolts on the bearers, took measurements as I shouted them out, pushed my a**e up hill when my legs couldn't move the wheel barrow anymore, helped load the Dingo's bucket with rubble, wet my head down when I was exhausted, kept me company oh and of course , talked my ear off on the drive to and from the job site.

Now before anyone thinks that's she's built like an ex-truckie let me tell you that she's far from it. In fact the exact opposite. A Macedonian beauty. Funny thing was, the deck owner said when she was using the hammer drill, "Gee, wish my wife could do that" to which I replied - "Mate, you can't have her".

Boys, that's called - Having your cake and eating it too!

Oh, and she once organised the signing of my Collingwood jumper by the entire 2007 squad.

    Cheers,
    Dr - 307.

That's what happens when you try and take a panaramic shot from a corner and try and merge two shots. It's the Panasonic TZ3 camera that has the program to do it. Normally you should take 5 or 6 to get a better merge. By the way, top bloody camera for the $500 I paid if anyones in the midst of buying a digital camera.

I'm glad you liked it. I'm rapt with it and more importantly, so is the client.

Good to see you back on the forum,
    Take care,
    Dr - 307.

Q - What's better than the satisfaction of completing the job?
A - The Makita LS1214 Sliding Compound Saw, the Panasonic 14.4v Li-Ion Cordless Drill & Impact Driver set, the BMI 1200mm level, and a few other things I bought to do the job. Boys and their toys.
