Aluminium Boat Floor
Hi guys this is my first post on this part of the forum and I actually did this project some time ago but I figured I'd share anyway, some one might benefit.
My cousin asked me if I could put a floor in his aluminium boat, sure why not says I.
He found some half ass way of doing it with aluminium angle on you-tube, I wouldn't recommend it.
So heres what I came up with.
Materials,
One, 6 m length of 40mm x 40mm x 3mm aluminium square section,
A hand full of bolts
A hand full of R clips
A hand full of pop rivets
And a sheet of 14mm ply wood.
All up about $150-
I made the floor in this manner so that it could be installed and completely remove if required with little to no affect to the structural integrity of boat.
All the materials added about 35kg to the boat.
The aluminium was cut using a drop saw and a jig saw and bent in a vice.
The ply wood was sealed with 4 coats of floor grade polyurethane and then carpeted.
Here are some progression photos.
kindest regards to all

Hi Walcen.
A very nice piece of work and well thought out.
Are the bolts and pins, stainless or galvanised. ??
If not you will need to really keep an eye on them.
Great job.

Hi Wal.
Yes if you can turn up some pins yourself in aluminium, that would be the best.
SS, does react with AL, but not as bad as mild steel. Gal is very close to AL, so is less of a problem.
Go with the AL pins, as you have a lathe.
Great job.
