Outside Macquarie Wharf, canoes, kayaks & skulls.
Featured in the bottom of this set of photos is an old bloke called Eric Sargent.
Eric is a living legend in Tassie. (Google him)
3 of the boats in these pictures are his & although he is still riding a bike, he thinks that the one he is standing next to will be his last full sized boat, now he wants to turn his hand to model building.Cliff.

OK, from old blokes to young blokes, these canoes are a bit like Boatmik's Quick Canoe (only heavier) & are built by school kids.

Cliff,
Thanks for all the pics.
I had a good chat with one of the guys from the aquatic club. Apparently the other Puffin was built by kids at the local high school, along with 2 others from the same moulds. They had one of them on the water being rowed and it seemed a perfectly functional little boat.
I think there may have been another one as a tender on one of the yachts in the marina but couldn't be sure from a distance.
Cheers, Cameron.

Hi Cliff.
Great photos. Thank you.
The second Puffin you speak of, (white with cream interior).
Was not a club build.
3 of those boats were built here in my workshop, as a 2 year mentor project.
The builders were boys from the Tasman District School.
The one on display is the first one of the 3.
All 3 boats are up for sale.
The local aquatic club, now owns them and wish to purchase a different type of boat.
That is not epoxy, just paint. I don't know if the boats have been repainted, but originally the boys did a great job.
The boats are a few years old now, but they have had very little use.
If any one was interested in a good little sailing dinghy, I would recommend them to any one. They are well built and have little use. They are certainly cheap enough at the asking price.

Hi Cliff.
Of course the PUFFIN was designed by Ian Outred. (spelling ?)
But the builders were a great bunch of young guys from our local school.
There were 2 boat builders to work with them and overall they did a great job.

I had a pleasant surprise on Sunday.
I and a mate Leckie had been out sailing for the afternoon on HS , and had just sailed on to our swing mooring , when we got a visit from the yacht club Safety boat.
It was another mate , who is building a Eun Mara , and had just come back from the Wooden boat festival.
He had some posters for me , from the festival , that feature a painting of HS.
The smaller one I already have a number of , but the larger flyer or poster was autographed by the painter , with a message for me .
Thats nice , I think I'll frame it.
Rob J.
