Boating on the Murray
I've been browsing the South Australiana collection of the State Library of SA, boats piccies of course.
You see a lot of early rowboats styled like this one:
http://www.catalog.slsa.sa.gov.au:10...0&FF=&1,0,,1,0
Strange looking beastie at the front end.
A direct link to the South Australiana database is:

The Pat McQuire collection (maritime collection) at the State Library is fabulous - heaps and heaps of stuff about boats of all types from the stuff we're playing with to warships of every age

Shades of a Strahan Piners' punt http://www.maritimetas.org/taswooden...iners_punt.htm
Looks a like a small version of the rowing canoe thingy some famous chap took up the Murray in the 1800's. Can't remember his name. There was a bit of hoo-haa about him 10 or so years ago. Someone put together a replica of his boat for a re-enactment I think.
