Default Why build a boat ?

"Building a boat is not just another project, but a lifetime of memories the whole family can enjoy. Sounds nice, but how does that play out in real life? :
“My family and I would like to express deep gratitude for the chance to build something that was very meaningful in our lives, something we probably could not have otherwise afforded.” Glenn in Gualala, CA

“I had built a boat about 35 years ago, as a father-son project with my father (now deceased) and I still have the boat and all the great memories that went along with it. Thanks”, John
So what is it that makes boatbuilding such a unique & fulfilling experience as opposed to just buying one?

You can build a boat with all of the features you want, not what the boat manufacturer decides you need. Plus, there is no comparison to the pride of being able to say, “I built it myself!”

Save up to 40-50% off the cost of a manufactured boat, if you can even find one that compares to your personalized creation.

Purchase materials as you need them, so you don’t need to shell out a huge chunk of change and then make payments, pay interest, etc—you know the drill.

Involve the kids, neighbors, friends and family—this can be a fun experience for everyone!

Finally, embrace the challenge! Boatbuilding is something new to learn, to pass down to future generations and connect you with the process of creating something with your own hands. Nothing compares!

Don’t put off building the boat of your dreams

Damn, I guess I've been screwing up for a lot of years. I've been using it as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the other half (the one that must be obeyed) and drink in peace, as I butcher wood into odd shapes, with some that remain floating upright, after a few minutes of hoping for the best, shortly after launching.

    REMEMBER:
Inviting the wife, kids & and friends (other than mates of course) is purely optional in my opinion.

I am fortunate enough for SWMBO to avoid the shed at all costs

    Why build a boat?

    1) Satisfaction
    2) Personal achievement
    3) to build to what you want not what someone else dictates
    4) because you will KNOW what went into the build
    5) YOU will KNOW how what was used in the build WITHOUT A DOUBT
    6) To attain what YOU want.
    7) To be the envy and constant source of awe from yer mates
    8) To be able to dictate at every opportunity "Mate I built the ruddy boat you bring the damned beer!"

Actually the journey of building is way better than the simple matter of waltzing into some brokers yard or marina and buying one... with a potentially doubtful history a potential doubtful use of correct methods and materials a potential careless previous owner... I guess KNOWING EXACTLY what materials effort and time went into its construction is the main motivator in many cases... others just love muckin with wood!!
Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
