One of the prettiest dinghies there is in my humble opinion, I've never sailed on one but the old man had a RL24 that supposedly was based on FD.

The Flying Dutchman is beautiful, and has very understated lines. My limited sailing experience sort of started on one in the 1960's, but I was so swept up in the drama of the boat speed that I was of almost no use I think- but I was very young and had only a few attempts at puddling about in a Sabot under my belt at that stage. I think now I'd still be pretty intimidated in a crowd like those in the videos, but it's lovely to watch!

Classics alright, but....
This youtube was posted on another site and I can't for the life of me work out what actually happens here.

Simple - he pulls the sail around the front of itself.
(figured it out on about the 15th viewing - drove me half nuts - came within a flea-bite of making a model to figure it out..)

OK on to lugs
If this boat is not already considered a classic I think it is fast becoming one. Hope Andrew is OK with me linking this vid, really nice job of both the boat and the video.

On the other hand, it is a scale model of the system used by the Beer luggers - much
larger boats indeed. Of course it might take 4 strong men to achieve on those, but...

I think it is time for some Herreshoff boats. It is surprising the lack of video on the numerous designs, anyway I'll keep searching.

That's really fascinating mike; it seems so 'modern', yet a lovely hull and wonderful, totally loony, 'of the period', light weather rig- a thread on another forum: http://www.woodenboat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=65960

Gaffers & smacks
Here's one that's really worth watching - not that all of the preceding youtubes clips have not been, you understand.
But this is a slow moving video of some really nice old boats - and not so old, including one of Mike Peyton's the cartoonist from Practical Boat Owner, as I remember??
