    Default Classic Yachts on YouTube

Not exactly your off the beach ply dinghies but beautiful all the same. Look out for the bloke pumping the bilge of Shamrock, not surprising she weeps a bit when pushed along.

That oversized flag on the back of Shamrock ruins her line and destroys the sense of scale. Imagine how big she would look with a normal sized flag!!!

More money than sense. Or the flag shop was out of stock!

    Default LW Sharpie

I was on the trapeze of an early ply version. One of the most exciting boats you can sail in a stiff breeze.

Absolutely ... I raced one ... not very successfully for a few seasons. But loved the Australian Sharpie.

Once got caught out on Sydney harbour when a 60 knot front came through. Don't know how strong it was where we were .. but gee that rain HURT.

The sharpie is just about unhandleable until you realise that if you don't let them heel they are one of the most capable rough water boats imaginable.

They also have Hyperdrive, Once racing at the heads of sydney harbour we had a buoy just under South head with a mark to the WSW over the other side in a black NEast breeze. Normally at high speed it takes about 7 or 8 minutes to get over there = 15 knot average. We came out from under the windshadow of South head just after setting the kite ... got a monster gust that had all of us hiking and trapezing flat strap on a broad reach and we were there ... in it seemed like about 30 seconds. Didn't even have a chance to think about getting the kite down.

Maybe I had a petite mal seizure or something ... but that was the fastest I have ever been on a monohull.

Mik like sailing a razor blade the tricky bit I always found was getting off the wire quick enough downwind (mainsheet hand was too slow).

    In the same vein

G'day Rob, ta I should be boatbuilding not trawling YouTube but it is interesting some of the stuff I've found.

Now for today's offering it's not a yacht but certainly a classic and way cool I think.
