I stopped for a look on Sunday, I purchased the little silver book and donated some cash as well.
They are hoping for a philanthropist to assist with the $. A generous X-Lotto winner would do the trick!
They are still hoping to get it into Fletchers slip.
As the lady said of the Cutty Sark, "They spent millions and millions to refurbish it".
I only hope to see it restored in my lifetime.

Must have been fun reading the plans for that!

    Is the tour worth doing?

    Hi Bob
Absolutely , we were lucky enough to get a guided tour by Peter Christopher a Director of the project including below decks an area not yet open to the public as more safety work is needed. Still coming to grips with this pics posting business I'll give it a go.
Hmm still can't figure out how to post other than attachment.

    unnamed-15.jpgunnamed-14.jpgunnamed-13.jpgunnamed-16.jpgHello City of Adelaide fans

Well, finally got over to Adelaide to see the CoA and it was a tremendous thrill to see the ship at last. But not just to see the ship but actually to see real progress with work being done.

My sister and I did a trip to Broken Hill and then Quorn to chase up some family history stuff and so being so close to Adelaide it was just a short trip down to see the ship. We went on a guided tour at 10am on a Monday morning and were the only two on the tour which was conducted by Meredith Reardon who, I think, is the great great great granddaughter of the first captain and part owner, so that was quite a thrill in itself and Meredith was extremely informative and welcoming, as was Peter Christopher who was there as well and happy to share knowledge about the ship.

There has been quite a lot of work done on the iron framing and many of the ribs and deck-beams are now looking pristine in gleaming new paint. Still a long way to go but lots of positive news about progress such as a joinery firm in Adelaide undertaking to replicate the first class cabins soon and the fact that the Captain's and the first mate's cabins are to be replicated thanks to a gift of Meredith's mother, Pam Whittle.

After so many "experts" have howled down the whole project it is fantastic to see that, thanks to the dedication of the volunteers and many people and businesses in South Australia real progress is being made on the restoration of this incredibly significant link with South Australia's history.

Well and truly worth the effort to take the tour.
