Decorative knot
I've bought Jan a bell for her birthday. It's just your common or boatie type brass bell. She wants it to hang by her front door so visitors can give it a ring and wake up her dogs.
So, I've got this brass bell, with a clapper hanging in the middle. I now need some sort of bell pull - just a rope hainging from the bottom of the clapper.
The rope is about 4mm thick but braided (ie, not plaited). If I could find some nice plaited rope of that size, I'd splice an eye in one end and splice a blind end in the other, just like I do with my mooring ropes, but all I've got at the moment is braided rope which means I can't splice it, I have to tie some sort of knot, a decorative knot.
Can anyone suggest a website showing such a knot? I've found a couple of suggestions but nothing 'right' yet. Nothing too difficult either - something as simple as the above mentioned splices is fine thanks (some of the bell pulls on the net are gorgeous but horrifying in their complexity).

Check out this bunch here http://www.igkt.net/index.php (in the gallery), or try to get hold of a copy of 'Ashley's Book of Knots' from your local library, loads of suitable knots in there...

Google turks head knot
works in laid or braided.
Stick a weight inside the head to make it throw further when you get sick of the bell...

Here's one I made earlier (about 30 years earlier)
finally has a use - It gets hung in the kitchen for my 5 year old grandaughter to call me from the workshop to the 'Hairdressers' when she cuts my hair.

Bundy link - We used to have an Aussie vicar in our village who was a biker & woodturner, I wasn't one of his 'flock' but we became good mates. He went back home but every so often I get a knock on the door and there is someone who has visited him & returned with a bottle of Bundy 50% OP for me from the vicar.
I still like Pusser's rum but it is hard to get hold of, the next best is Wood's

Thanks for the feedback boys. It's been an interesting trip.
In the end, I went with something I devised myself, inspired by the sinnets. I wanted something simple - I particularly didn't want to get involved on one of those complex bell ropes that look so lovely but were just too much work for the time available vs my lack of experience with fancy knot work.
