    Default Fatal storm

Yesterday I picked up the book "Fatal Storm" , by Rob Mundle , dealing with the 1998 Sydney to Hobart race .
The race conditions were obviously horrific , winds over 90 knots , enormous , deadly waves , really , the stuff of nightmares.
But the truelly incredible thing for me is that men and women flew out in those conditions , and saved countless sailers.
Or to be specific , the death toll was 6 , it was estimated without the at sea rescue efforts , there would have been 40+ deaths.
A compelling book , with some amazing photos.
I had what I thought was a tough day on HS last sunday , but it pales in to insignificance , when you read something like this.
    Regards Rob J.

I've just glanced through this book again , it remains on my computer table .
    Very thought provoking.
    VERY VERY thought provoking.
Has anyone got any other books on the race , that they would recommend ?.

G'day fellas, I have read one other book but can't for the life of me remember it's name, however, "Fatal Storm" was read just after it was releaed and I reckon it is one of the most compelling reads I have ever had only surpassed by the accounts of my cousin who was a foredecky on a Industrial Quest.......... hats off to the recue crews, we all thank you.

    Regards,
    Kev

Yes Kev , the rescue people , all of those involved , did an amazing job.
Your cousin would have some stories to tell alright , as would everyone caught up in that hell.
I'm not sure what to say , except that yes , its a very compelling read , and there are a lot of lessons to be learnt.
I reckon Fatal Storm should be on the bookshelf of all yachtsmen and women (if it can be found).
    Regards Rob J.
