Thread: Asking the Impossible

I don't recognize the model or the builder's name, though this wouldn't be unusual. In the late 60's and early 70's, the woodenboat market was coming to an end in regard to quantity built by production manufactures (Chris Craft, Lyman, etc.). Most everyone was converting to 'glass for obvious reasons and many of these companies would die in the following years. I call these time the beginning of the dark days in yacht building as a glut on the market, from an economic down turn, over production and material choice changes caused a decade long dead spot in sales, builds and out of business or consolidation of builders. As an example, in 1970, there where 12 manufactures of 20' - 22' trailer sailers (Catalina 22, etc.), but ten years later, there where only 2, most absorbed by other manufactures, though some just went belly up.

I mention all this simply because it's often difficult to find records and data of these now long gone manufactures. This was all before hull HIN's, computors, data bases, cable TV and we still used rotary the telephone, which kids today think are some sort of manual calculator if asked. Good luck and maybe someone will recognize her.

I really was hoping to have a better pic to work with, maybe even one that showed the reg number but unfortunately that is all mum could find.
I will probably never know but hopefully she is in the hands of an emthusiast - I read about the first boat that Sid Melksham had when he opened up Fraser Island, one that he had to raise from the Maryborough River, is being restored, so there is hope.
