    Default Michalak Philsboat Video

A guy in Christchurch who has built a Jim Michalak designed Philsboat has recently posted three little videos of sailing this boat on Lyttelton Harbour, Christchurch's port.

Philsboat is basically a "Birdwatcher" style boat (a concept developed by Phil Bolger) but with a transom stern and a small motor well. His Philsboat does not have the designed balanced lug sail, but a Chinese Lug which the builder adapted to the boat. The builder has posted a number of reports about the sailing of his boat, how it performs etc on the Michalak Yahoo Discussion Group.

    Default Another Michalak boat

There is also a youtube video of another boat that Jim Michalak has done, this one for the Texas 200 race last year, "Mikesboat" is a multichine open boat with a balanced lug main and a small mizzen sail.

It seems to be going very well in this video
