Angry oil spill on unfinished ply

    Hi all,
A small drop of oil spilled on to my unfinished ply and i was wondering if there are any u beaut ways of cleaning it up so that epoxy and paint will stick to it.
I had heard that dry washing powder is good for soaking oil off concrete driveways, so i put some on the spill. It seemed to work reasonably well, but it also sucked moisture out of the air and made some funny looking patches that got me all panicky, but seemed to wash out ok.
It looks reasonable now,and water placed on the spot appears to soak through the wood normally, but i need to ensure i have done enough before I continue. any ideas?

Hi Spiesy, what do you call a small drop, what sort of oil and are you worried about looks or just that the finish doesn't lift off?

I had a similar drama with Sixpence, documented in this thread - Grease out of timber

    Lots of suggestions made.

For what it's worth, I wound up doing nothing and can't find the spot now, but that was a couple of years ago and I still haven't painted anything

oil was outboard motor gear oil. only a drop, but it spread rather quickly. it will be paint over epoxy finish, so looks don't matter. I just want to make sure everything will stick ok.

One quick option is dry cleaning fluid or white spirits, give the offending area a good quick flood and then mop up with paper towels, make a pad from paper towels and press firmly down on the flooded area to soak up as much as you can then just let it dry, should only take a few minutes.
