What a beautiful, piece of work.
Truly a credit to it's builder.
A great gift from another city/country.

You are right in saying such exhibits should be housed under one roof, but I have always believed public displays around a city, keep things in peoples minds much better.

I would like to see public buildings in Hobart, show some of our Maritime History. I think it would compliment the work of the Maritime Museum.

well, yes, I suppose you have a point there. only not so sure how many people would actually see it in the location it's in. Way up Kent Street towards the Observatory Hill end.

I notice some cafe seating outside the building, so I am guessing quite a few people do see the boat.
I am not familiar with the area you mention. But it is great to see the boat on display.

Oh yes, there are quite a few people in that area, all office workers, and it's interesting to just sit there for a while to see if anyone actually looks at the boat; In fact, it's as though the boat's invisible. Your average office worker just might not be in to boats. I just think it would be better for the boat to be in a place where people go to actually look at boats. I mean, it's not as if there are no suitable venues not far from this location and within the City of Sydney Council area. The boat is in Symantec House in Kent Street. Maritime NSW are (or were) there but that's a pretty tenuous connection.

Wharf 7 get's my vote! That is where the Bounty launch replica is and few other notable historic boats, with the James Craig just outside at the same wharf.

That would be an ideal location where people who appreciate historic vessels actually go to see them!

But that's just me, I guess - must write to Clover Moore about this!

If such a lovely boat is being ignored, it would be better placed where people would actually be interested in it.

I agree that this is a waste, not to mention a bit of an insult to the City of Portsmouth. Actually I emailed the Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, on the email address that she provides but have received no reply at all. I just don't see how it can be justified to stick this boat in an office block foyer at the Northern end of Kent Street. I wonder what the City of Portsmouth people think about it?

Well, after the post to Victor yesterday I decided to send a follow-up email to the Lord Mayor stating how disappointed I was that I'd had no reply to the first email, which was some few weeks ago now. I also provided a link to this thread, as I had done the first time. Got a call yesterday afternoon by someone who introduced herself simply as Tula, stating that she was on the Lord Mayor's protocol team. Tula was helpful, I think?? and said that the Portsmouth / Sydney Sister City Committee has been making representations about this matter to Council. Tula also provided me with a contact for that committee. So' I'll keep you all posted, but what I suspect we may be dealing with here is the PC brigade being embarrassed by Australia's British beginnings and therefore not really wanting to "celebrate" anything to do with the "nasty colonial past" and "Invasion Day". That may be totally unfair to these good people but that is my suspicion. Oh, and for the record, I'm 4th generation Australian of Irish ancestry, so I'm not coming form a British jingoistic perspective on this!
