SA Wooden Boat Festival 2009
Just got the first newsletter about the SAWBF'09 this week.
Is anyone on-list involved / going / participating ?
(apart from MIK who cannot really avoid it even if he were so inclined)

cheers

I should be there, though I haven't made a final decision. Guess I'll have to go shopping for shovels

I would like to as I have in the past but I believe it is mostly a music festival nowadays and the boats are second to making a quid by the organisers... I really enjoyed the two I attended and would cart my little boat thing there again like a shot if it was anything like it was.

Actually ... they keep trying with the music thing ... but the boat side is really dominant.
I don't mind a bit of music in the background anyhow.
This year there is an extra day of on the water events.
BTW ... don't be put off by the low water in the Murray. In a way it is easier to sail around now ... the weed has all gone and the shallow bits are clearly visible ...
It used to be a bit tricky ... now you can see 'em is it kinda fun.

Last year, the highlight for me was being one of about 15 people crowding
into one corner of a pontoon to lift the opposite corner high enough out of
the chop to pump it dry. Came within a flea-bite of it sinking.
Pump #1 - a 12V bilge pump off someones dinghy - didn't have the capacity.
Pump #2 - a petrol fire pump - couldn't be started.
Pump #3 - an electric submersible - did the trick. Eventually. When enough
extension leads were found...
Have come to the conclusion that the WBF is probably pretty good if one
seeks to "engage" with it. The year I put Teal in it & did the R&R, it was
much fun. But it's pretty ordinary if one is on one's Pat Malone as a spectator.
Like lots of other things I guess.
