I used one of these at a demonstration and though it was good at material removal, it wasn't especially good smoothing the surface. The shape causes scalloping, which will just need fairing. It does work as advertised, in that is will quickly eat wood, so sculptures and other freehand efforts could benefit from a tool like this. Most surfaces on a boat will need to be fair and smooth, so another tool may be preferred.
I've also noticed the only thing on the web (yet, in a quick scan) in regard to this product, are the links to and from distributors, their self proclaimed testimonials and PDF's. I've yet to see wood working sites, with independent evaluation and no boat building sites, that have experience with it. Of course, this may just be the newness of the product and the natural reluctance of many to ruin a piece of something trying something new.
In fact, it seems "DIY expert" is one of the frequently seen domains seen in my quick search, suggesting this is just a spam attempt. I wonder how may other posts on this site (the general wood working sections), promoting this product, have appeared in the last day or so, from this particular member. Hummmm . . .

Just looking at this , shows me that it will not only remove paint , but a good proportion of the timber underneath, and as PAR said scollop the timber .
This is not something I would recommend for paint removal.
I have just retired from 20+years in the ABRASIVES industry.

I could find a use for it Jeff, mostly with bulk removal, but removing paint and leaving a ready to repaint surface, seems questionable at best, unless you're just not especially picky.

I Agree, this tool accessory is strictly for stock removal.

Hi guys,
thank you for your comments.
It is not spamming,I just wanted to suggest a new tool that might be of help.It still might be hard to find lots of comments form people who tried it as this is a completely new tool and hasn't been on the market for long.Maybe some of you can try it and share with us your experience?
Roto Rasp is still not available to buy in Australia and it has not been demonstrated on any trade fairs in Australia, so it is very unlikely that you have tried it yet (probably you have mistaken it for some other product?)
It has been on a number of Trade fairs in Europe where it won many awards for the best innovative product.
In fact, it is really good for paint removal (tried and tested). It comes in 3 blade sizes, so if you use the fine one, you would not take more than 1mm of the surface material with gentle, effortless sanding.Of course, with the coarse one, you will remove more (the coarse one is not recommended for plastic)please, watch a video demonstration and see how it works.

I watched the VIDEO, and It is no better than using a RESIN FIBER SANDING DISC, and the comparison with a Flap Disc , is not relevant, this is because the FLAP DISC is primarily designed for METAL WORK, and timber is not hard enough to break, and wear the flap edges to expose new abrasive, the exception would be IRON BARK and a few Australian Hardwood Species.
This tool may work to remove paint , but as I said it will not do so in a manner that will leave the surface flat and suitable for painting on a BOAT.
Not with sanding my comments, the tool would be of benefit to the wood carving fraternity, and for slab work(possibly).
this is my 2cents worth.
