We waited for 40 years to get the shed we wanted , but I think we left it too late.
Jeez , I would have thought if you were running Mens Sheds , you would have the boys making or repairing boats , so they could get out on the water !.
I really want to get something , in wood , to fish from , and have a Tassie boat in my sights .
I'd probably have to sell HS first though , I don't think the better half will come at me having 2 big boats.
You may well know this boat , it was built to work down south.

I tried to post some pics of the dinghy the men's shed is working on, but my computer skills are not up to the task.
I would email you some pics, but cannot find an email address in your profile.

Yes our men's shed is very interested in boat work, but we are in a borrowed shed, which is only a garage, so we don't have much space.
If we get our own larger building in the future, I can see boat building and restoration being a big part of the local interest.

Please post a link to the boat you are referring to. I might recognise it. But remember there are "HEAPS" of boats from Tas. Very big boating population here.

Yes , its a pity you can't have some certainly in your shed , then you and the boys could get in to some worthwhile boat projects.
I'd be happy to see a few of the boys working in my shed , but I'm a bit out of the way , I guess.

Update on Scaffolding, ideas.

I was partaking of a couple of "cleansing" ales with my mate last night and I brought up the subject of this thread.

He reminded me of 1 particular painting job I did on a larger boat in my yard some years ago.
The boat was too big to go in the shed, so it was outside on a transport trailer.
After the repair/alterations were complete, I had to paint the boat.
All the prep work was done off ladder and rigged up scaffold.
For the final top coat I needed to work quickly.
The answer was, my old Holden 1tonner.
Me standing on the back, foam roller, paint tray and you guessed it, my mate drove my vehicle back and forth till I got to a height I could work from the ground.
Light sand between coats done per ladders/scaffolds, then back on the tray of the Ute.

I must say here and now, I never had a lot of regard for OH&S.
I had forgotten about this job earlier.

Yes , I've done things like that , nah , much more stupid , and got away with it .
So stupid , I'm not going to repeat them here.
I've just this minute , came in from painting the deck , achieved from ladders etc , and that should be about it , for this time , there is only the bottom to paint .
I've resolved though , if there is a next time , to get a scaffolding.
Better late than never !.

I don't want to be "safe" beyond my ability to achieve a goal.

As a person, I am no more valuable now at 57, than when I was in my prime at 30.

I would rather die trying, than die of the boredom of conformity or security.

My actions put my children at grave risk .
My actions cost me a broken back , a broken neck , a crushed foot , and 3 shoulder reconstructions.
I've learnt I'm not indestructable , after all.
I guess I followed the infantry dictum to the letter "just do it , and worry about it later".
You sort of get away with it when you are young , but it all catches up on , in time.

3 crushed disc's,
spurs on all 7 neck vertebrae.
right shoulder cusp.
right collar bone with spur.
right hip
right knee
right foot.

I did a major house renovation / extension recently and spent $3000 on mobile scaffolding with braces etc from mr scaffolding (look it up on the net), worked great and very safe.
With the house done and storage at a premium I sold the scaffolding for $2800, so although a hefty outlay easily sold and effectively cost me $200

Probably the best $200 you have ever spent !.
I was down at Garry Stewarts a couple of days ago , and he has scaffolding going right around the boat he is building.
He was doing the ply decking , so he would mark out the ply on the boat , then stroll down the scaffolding to his band saw .
And then back up again .
Too easy !.
