Default The Great Tinaroo Raid 2010

    sb326321 - News & Events

12-14 June The Annual Regatta of the Wooden Boat Association Cairns FNQ.

    EVENT INVITATION

The Wooden Boat Association of Cairns invites members and friends to attend the 6th annual Great Tinaroo Raid, an event which has grown to become a major aquatic event in Far North Qld.
This long-weekend regatta is about family-fun held on the safe & attractive waters of Lake Tinaroo, with participation events for all ages including boat displays, sailing opportunities, model races, rope-work demonstrations plus plenty of leisure-time for recreational pursuits, and our most popular activities camping & socializing.
A single entry fee includes event packs, banquet dinner and movies, BBQ lunch, vessel registration, event participation & prize eligibility. Camping fees are additional and subject to length of stay. Click here for event fees and registration.
Each year WBAC provide a fresh itinerary and theme for enjoyment and participation - 2010 is the year of ‘Vikings’ Watch and participate as ‘’Hagar and his Horribles” - feared marauders of the Far North - invade our event with special longboat ‘Miss Piggy”. But be prepared for surprises and some amusing antics both on and off the water.
To participate in this fun weekend simply complete the registration form (click) and return to WBAC. Registrations must be received by 7th June to confirm catering numbers

This is a great event every year. Or at least the photos tell me it is. Friendly, low key, relaxed. Family atmosphere.

Blokes (of both genders) doing wonderful things in odd wooden boats or just hanging around soaking up the atmosphere and location. Well worth the trip if you are inclined.

Absolutely, I have only missed one & that was because I went to my Mum & Dad's 50th wedding anniversary.

OK, the photos, at last.... I have weeded it out to just 107 pics adding up to about 12Mb.
I started with 250 pics adding up to about 470Mb.

    Enjoy.... I did.

The 3 above are a newly built Goat Island Skiff.

Here are a few more, some with my new Quick Canoe 155.

My QC155 got named 'The Ute' because of its load carrying capacity.

OK, now some photos of the nonsense & fun.

There was a Viking theme & there was a Viking Raid at Sunset on the Saturday.

There was model boat building on Sunday & then the models had to be raced in a pool propelled by a quick retrieve on a fishing line.

That was just so much fun for kids & adults & I can recommend it to anybody who tries to organise a similar event.

The weather was brilliant, not too cold, not too hot, a bit of cloud, some good breeze a bit further out for the sailors, magic sunsets.

Mate, ya shoulda seen it yesterday ay.
