Unknown Dinghy on EBay
I came across a boat on FleaBay that I haven't seen before. OK, not that unusual an occurance, but this design interests me, as it seems similar to a couple of design threads on Sailing Anarchy and Boat Design that I've been following regarding small O'pen Bic style skiffs for younger kids.
Unknown boat on EBay
Length: 3.2m
Beam: 1.12m
Mast Length: 4.8m
Homebuilt kid's boat - Sailing Anarchy
Cabrillo Skiff - BoatDesign.Net- (you have to ignore the off-topic discussion about "what's a skiff?")

So can anybody shed some light as to what sort of boat this is?
It appears to have a selection of sails.
I've also attached some of the images so that when the EBay listing goes bye-bye this thread still makes sense.Last edited by Hawk; 22nd October 2009 at 11:35 AM. Reason: Fixed typos; Added dimensions.

Bit of guess but it maybe an early Moth design........the sail insignia looks like a rocket, unknown to me.

Thanks for your guess Mike.
This boat seems to have two possible mainsails, and also a jib, so I'm guessing the jib counts it out as a moth.
It looks similar to a Flying Ant in some ways, yet the outer hull looks similar to a Sabre.
I was hoping that Mik might be able to shed some light on this.
Whatever the case, it's probably more performance than I'd be looking at for my kids right now. Just interested to find out.

I have seem most boats at some time and this is new to me. If it was exactly 11ft then I would be guessing it was a Moth. Could have been from a "build a boat" plan if it was built in Australia.
The self draining floor makes it more recent if not a moth.
Does look like fun though.

Thanks for the feedback Mik.
At boat No. 11, there can't have been too many of them built.
I had a look at some of the other photos on the original EBay post, and in one you can see the trapeze rings, so I guess that rules out the Moth also.
But as you say, looks like a lot of fun, and for $355, it was a bargin.

The hull has shades of 125 about it.
With Flying 11 or 12ft skiff infuences.
Who designed the 125? & what else did they design?

It's interesting that you make that observation AJ. The concept of the 125 was created by Mr. Simon Grieg, trading as Blockey The Boat Builder of South Yarra, Victoria. This is the first reference I have found to Blockey The Boat Builder since my first dinghy.
My Dad build my sister and I a Moppet Major from a kit supplied by "Blockey The Boat Builder". The specifications of the Moppet Major were similar to the Mirror, however it had a single piece aluminum mast and no spinnaker.
So it wouldn't surprise me if the boat was a short run kit boat supplied by someone like Blockey.
Does anyone have any catalogs or magazines ads for Blockey The Boat Builder?

The 125 and 145 have similar hullforms as well.
