Thread: What acid for cleaning newly laid tessellated tiles?

Probably Hydrochloric Acid, but it really depends on the type of tile/paver you had put down.

I have no idea what the contract arrangements were re the job, however the tiler really should be the one cleaning them!

What kind of a tiler leaves tiles so messy they need acid washing?

Are they reclaimed tiles what pattern are they in?

Did the tiler say because of there size it would be easier to clean them once laid?

Not sure you can get this over here but it's a blend of Phosphoric and Hydrochloric acids

Be careful acud washing them, phosphoric is not as aggressive as hydrochloric acid but if you make a mistake you can get blooming marks that can be permanent
I know it will be more expensive but tile shops sell tile cleaning products that are made for specific to different tile types and stones.
I don’t agree that it is the tilers job unless it is specifically included in his quote. I assume it is just a cement haze that you are cleaning off?

They are new tiles and as beardy suggested it’s only a slight cement bloom.

I’d be asking him, rather than us. If you stuff up the cleaning you won’t have any comeback if you used a different acid to the one he recommended.

This follows the line of the bow front of the verandah.

Not saying there's anything wrong with the workmanship, but I would have lost that curve by scribing in the plain backing tiles and kept the decorative pattern tiles symmetrical like the right hand side, but some may say I have a problem in that way.

a first job of a tiler thats never done it before. i remember this around 20 years ago when i did my first tile job left haze all over the place that needed acid stuff to clean off.
never had that problem since as i learnt from my mistake.
