I doubt it would cover the costs of running the BB.
I wonder why people take these forums so seriously. It's not the end of the world if you get a post removed or someone asks you to remove something that some find offensive.
I do have a problem with those goat loving, banana sucking junior moderators though.Photo Gallery

I recall the "good old days" when somebody put up an attention seeking, dummy spitting post and announcing their retirement from the forums then the moderators did just that ..... If somebody wants to go public and announce their departure making a political stance ..... let them go and dont let them come back.

Well said, I dont see the big deal. I've been chipped a couple of times, got the odd reddy for being inappropriate, offended people, been offended, argued ethics and politics but at the end of the day it's just water off a ducks back. For the 100 or so regulars, we're here for the chat as much as we are for the technical stuff. So if things go a bit pear shaped, you just need to roll with it - we ALL have much bigger fish to fry in our lives I am certain of that.

Ahhhh, a quick search of old threads reveals .....
its been 4 weeks since Dougs last thread critiscising the way the forum is not run to his specifications.
I reckon this is all based on lunar cycles

Well I know one person who will be happy - my wife. So it is not just kids that were being offended, but it took a while before the weight of public pressure caused the action taken. Others who have used that avatar in the past have self regulated after they had their fun. If that had happened here, then this would not have gone as far as it has.
I'm sure Dazzler's would not have been removed had it not been to keep the playing field level, and fairness to everyone concerned. We do have to recognise that it is not just males 25-60, white, anglosaxon, protestant on this site. All races, religions, ages and both sexes are equally welcome, and sometimes a reminder is required.
Moderators really only have to moderate 3 types of posts. Ones that forget the above point, the ones of those ####wits who want to inundate us with spam, and to play referee in the occasional boxing match. We get enough crap dealing with the last, without having to get into slagging matches over the first two.
So when is the next full moon then, and who's turn is it to be kenmil?"Clear, Ease Springs"

Both times I have disagreed but gracefully accepted such moderation. You accept the rules and move on and later with the benefit of hindsight I realised that I could have done it better. (Sorry Stuart)
I have had the avatars turned of for a very long time now because I haven't enjoyed looking at some of them either, so it is not a recent thing but may be a system where the default is that avatars are not displayed untill requested may be better.
And maybe some of the more robust non woodworking threads should be made similar to the Orange room treatment.
It is regretful that people leave over this.
Peter.

Wow, lucky I'm perfect. I'd hate to run foul of one of them junior goat sucking moderating bananas. I've never had a post deleted, received a PM from Neil or or nuthin' and never had my avatar changed.

Don't think doug will get the chance to read this but for the rest that plan to spit the dummy and run. I have no idea what drives you to do it. But leaving a "last kick" thread like this one makes you look like an over grown 5 year old having a temper tantrum. If sympathy and respect are something you're trying to achieve it won't happen acting like this - quite the opposite.

There are many things in life that are worthy of getting upset about.
This isn't one of them............. not by a long shot.
Lets keep things in perspective, this is a woodworking forum. Lets have lots of argy bargy over "light side V dark side". Lets argue about the quailty of GMC tools. Lets debate who makes the best turning tool.
But who gives a bugger about this stuff!
P.S. I will welcome any school that is forward thinking enough to use the forum to advance their students knowledge.Specializing in O positive timber stains

its pretty easy really, apply the logic;
Neil owns the site, what he says goes. whats to argue about... whats so hard to understand ?
In the past I've had posts "edited" & "removed" - who cares ?
Doug is lucky he's had a chance to participate - sounds like the old public service "the world owes me a living syndrome" to me.... another "last post". Bye Dung, ah... Doug...
i reckon things havn't changed much at all - the same rules have been applied logically the whole time i've been here (3 yrs ?); if you speak about shagging, show boobies, insult, denegrate or show obtuse sexism you get your post deleted - rarely anything else - banning is an extreme last resort for spammers and serial ferkwits like kenmil (you reading this Doug ?)
Its been the same way the whole time i've know this place.... Believe me I've had my fair share of posts "edited" . Now that i'm a moderator I can tell you quite clearly the rules for moderation are very liberal and even handed, but you know this right ? stop yer whinging you pack of purse carrying nancies!! !
CheersZed
