    Zed,

I heard a rumour that you only became a moderator because your reds were worth more points.

Surely that's not the case, is it?

I am surprised that schools don't already use this forum, it appears in numerous google searches I've done and the yahoo web spiders live here.

This forum has some great information from over the years by forumites stored free of charge and provided by UBeaut. I don't think it will make a difference to change the avatar Doug, try it, you'll bounce right back I'm sure (so to speak).

I spent many years on an un-moderated group, rec.woodworking, and saw it eventually degenerate to a point it was no longer worth wading through the junk.
For me, setting and maintaining standards is a good thing, making the learning aspect of the forum available to a wider audience is also a good thing. I think we would learn from a bunch of inquisitive youngsters (and w'work teachers) getting involved. Who knows, maybe we could even teach them something.

Finally, this isn't a democracy, unless Neil wants it to be, so I guess we have to pay that "price" to be members. It's pretty cheap in my book.

    My moderation style..

I have a very broad mind and usually overlook posts that others later delete, I even join in on some and get deleted myself, I dont have a problem with that.

I will not tolerate personal slagging whether against me, or anyone else be it moderators or general members.
We have all come here to talk about woodwork and its associated trades, and to have fun.
When it stops being fun for you, just stop coming here, dont post a tirade about the Administration of the forum, you wont win.
    Better to just fade away.

Banning a person is the last thing any of us want to do, it is the last resort.

I think I must have used the wrong door. I sort of ended up in the forum closet, not really outside. It's amazing what you hear when hiding in a closet.

I thought this was the age when you're suppose to come out of the closet.

About time this thread got hijacked

    R.I.P.

but it should die a natural death, and not be closed because someone just thinks its run its course

If this was a TV episode it would have (R) next to it in the TV guide.

    Yes my hearrrrty.

That was another day and another thread me thinks.

I just keep in my what Journeyman Mick says when you get peeved with something on here. Just not worth it. Had my own episode a couple of weeks back so I just stopped posting as all I was doing was getting worked up over crap that means very little in the grand scheme of things.

For what it's worth, I am wholly in support of Neil and his team of moderators.

There are house rules that apply, and I for one am quite happy to abide by them. This isn't a democracy, rather more like a benevolent dictatorship, with Neil as the benevolent one. He and his business does, after all, provide this terrific forum for us without charge.

Look around the other forums on the 'net; this is definitely one of the, and quite possibly the best.

    Let's keep it that way.

After talking with the Administration, the ban on Doug is now permanent.

And just so there is no confussion Ele__13 has aslo been banned.

As was pointed out 2 years ago by , if you say you want to get out of the forums, just say so, and your wish will be granted.

    Followup to Shaun's post

There are a couple of interesting points in this post:
    1. It reads like you are a little fearful of complaining, and that I believe that is going to be an increasing issue around here. Why would that be an issue. Only by complaining or letting your feelings be known can change for the better come about This forum needs moderation,You're dead right there, it certainly does but if it goes to far then we will all either tow the company line What company line. There is no company line. If you find one point it out to me cause it ain't mine. or be forced to leave. No one has ever been forced to leave. The odd trouble making rat bag may be banned but that is a very, very, very last resort. This is quite a friendly and definately a helpful resource Thats 2 things you have got right. It would be a shame to see it change to a powerplay. There is no power play, just a long over due enforcing of forum rules.

    2. Yes, this forum is a business tool WHAT ROT. It is used as traffic generation to ubeaut.com.au, What? The 1 link hidden at the bottom of the pageadvertising for ubeaut SHOW ME AN ADD FOR U-BEAUT and increasingly revenue via advertising. So what! Would you prefer to have a free site or pay a yearly subscription. There are a lot more ads now than when I first came on board, You have been here for 14mth and in that time there has actually been a decrease in adds on these forums and I imagine they pull in more than a full time wage for the board owners. Where did you get this fantasy from - these forums cost around $20,000 a year to run do you actually think I am making that much. If so go start your own forum fill it with adds and go retire. I sure as hell can't

Every post by volunteers is leveraged to income to ubeaut. RUBBISH This is fair as they have hosting costs that makes three things you've got right and a business to run WE MAKE POLISH - I can make more money from one sale of polish than these forums could generate in 3 years, but I would hate to see all the work by members around here manipulated so that the only appropriate use of the forum is helping ubeaut at the expense of members. I'm really lost for words here. I'm sorry but this would have to be without a doubt, the greatest load of absolute twaddle I have ever read on these forums.

There is a fantastic community here That's the forth thing you've got right. I hope that the admins and membership can work out a way to keep everything going happily while remaining within reasonable boundaries. As far as I can see everything is already going happily and none of our already reasonable boundaries have changed.

Goodonya for defending yourself! Keep it up - more power to your elbow.

My two-bobs' worth: This website is a marvellous mixture of expert knowledge, sensible practical advice, dumb@rsed opinion, brilliant dead-pan humour and Aussie mateship and irreverence (that's a small selective list, by the way. A comprehensive description of the contents of these forums would run to several pages).

If youngsters interested in woodwork want to join up and contribute, we should welcome them. The one or two who have already done so seem to fit in pretty well. Young Stirlo is a great example.

If teachers want to suggest to their students that this is a good resource for them to use, we should encourage that, too.

I don't think we need to change anything. We certainly don't want to lose the BB's unique flavour by crude censorship or bowdlerization. If the moderators continue to keep a watchful eye in the way they have for the time I've been on board, I reckon this website will survive and prosper.

See - even Driver makes a reasoned arguement occasionally
