    Default Google ads

Is there any way to turn the Google ads section on top off?

I've disabled Skimlinks in settings but it made no difference.

Just I am getting my internet from my phone and out bush where reception is dodgy uploading all the links slows it down and increases useage

I use AdBlock Plus, don't get any ads.

Also, read this thread on the same subject, in particular Ubeauts' response.

You can get addblockers for the phone OS. Apple just allowed them on iOS and I am pretty sure there are addblockers for Android.

Thanks Fred done. I didn't mind the adds as such, it is just they take so long to load when reception is poor, plus use more internet data

These google adverts at the top of every page in every thread I visit are a relatively new addition for me. Definitely not to my liking, I have absolutely no interest in building a fish ladder or how a saw hangs, etc, yet there it is, every day on every page. Click bait rubbish from google.

Have read Neil's response re postings and logging in. Have tried to re-log in a number of times, cleaned the cache and cookies and history and they are still there - I keep logged in and have some 2600+ posts so I don't think lack of participation is the problem. I have absolutely no problem with the sponsors down the right hand side and thank them for their sponsorship and support but the "new" google ones are annoying and not worthy of being on the page.

I don't use the adblock stuff which has been posted about but will need to seriously consider something if I can't get rid of the annoying click bait stuff from google.

Any reason why you don't use Adblock? As said above it gets rid of what you are complaining about.

Nothing against Adblock or similar, however, most of my participation these days is on an iPad and I use Safari. Had a bit of a snoop and, at this stage, at least, Adblock and Safari have a few problems playing together. It is my understanding that this is being worked on and should be resolved soon.

FOR THE INFORMATION OF ALL MEMBERS and guests.

Those supposed ads are not ads, nor are they "Google ad bait" but a Matched Content feature using threads/posts/blogs etc, directly from the forums to hopefully increase user engagement, more participation from members, and maybe involve visitors more and have them want to join.

They are not linked to any outside source, they are purely there to inform. If you click on the arrow to the right of the block you will find there are numerous links to similar threads etc on these Forums, they do not generate income for us and will not take you to any paid ads or away from the forum.

I am looking at relocating the Matched Content feature to the Similar Threads section found at the bottom of all thread pages. Probably won't work as well for guests as they usually won't wade through a big thread but it should sort out the problem for members.

Hopefully this will happen later tonight.

Just bare in mind that the forums are free to use because of the ads that we run. In other words those who use the forums the most and those who block ads contribute pretty well nothing to the running of the forums money wise as they don't use the ads. It is the guests that keep these forums free for the members.

By the same token if it wasn't for the members and their contributions by way of posting there would be no forums for the guests to come and no need for ads or ad blockers.

    Cheers - Neil

    About the Matched Content feature:

Matched content is a free recommendation tool that offers a simple way to promote threads blogs and articles to Forum visitors/guests and members.

It easy for readers to find the content that they're interested in and can increase time spent on the forums, reader loyalty and interaction with the forums from visitors/guests and maybe even those members who don't have ad blockers.

The Matched Content feature promotes Threads/posts/articles that are most relevant to the current threads they are reading. Matched Content recommendations are based on topic similarity and are personalized for the reader.
