    It is happening again!

Whenever I make a new post in a thread (one I haven't made a post in before) it creates it as a subscription and defaults to instant notification...

What this means is that if I make a post I have to go to the subscriptions and turn off the instant notification every time!

    Cheers,

    Chipman

Chipman, have you checked the notification option in the user control panel?

Click on the "Edit Options" link in the control panel, then look for the section titled "Messaging & Notification". In there is an item headed "Default Thread Subscription Mode". Set this to "Do not subscribe", then press the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the form.

I think what happened is that notifications disappeared in the upgrade. Someone then ran a script which set EVERYONE's option to "subscribed", and now we have to unset it manually.

    Neil,
After setting the thread notification to "no email" I am still getting emails. I think it is because of the forum subscription settings I have and I can't find anywhere to switch email notification for forums off. So unscubscribed all forums for the moment.

    Cheers

Even after changing the Default Email Notification via your User CP>Edit Options>Messaging & Notification>Default Thread Subscription Mode to Do Not Subscribe or No Email Notification, you'll still need to go User CP>List Subscriptions and then tick all the boxes for the threads that you do not want to get Notifications¹ and then scroll down to the Selected Threads: dropdown box and then select the appropriate action² that you want to apply for the selected threads that you've ticked.

¹Notifications will be set as any of the four below

    • No email notification
    • Instant email notification
    • Daily email notification
    • Weekly email notification

²Selected Threads can be changed to any of the six below

    • Move to folder
    • Delete Subscription
    • No email notification
    • Instant email notification
    • Daily email notification
    • Weekly email notification
    Cheers

Sorry folks but it's been turned back on again as it is after all the default setting for this and almost all other forums and has been the default ever since we started in 1999.

If you have chanced your settings than you shouldn't have to do it again.... I say shouldn't but I'm really not sure. Mine didn't change.

    Cheers - Neil
