    Yes, well said Neil.

But I also want to identify an additional practice of those who vascillate between this forum and the Peanut Gallery. Quite often new people or inexperienced members ask questions that seem naive and focus on subjects that have been previously discussed at length. This immediately makes them the target of derision which is manifest as snide remarks in this forum and open criticism in the Gallery (yes, I'm an occasional lurker there).

I for one don't like this practice. Everyone should be given the opportunity to become familiar with the function of this forum. New and inexperienced members should be treated with respect and guidance, not derision. They may be somewhat ignorant sometimes of the way the forum works and of what has previously been discussed, but this doesn't mean that they are stupid.

I suppose it depends on what you come here for.

I'd say that the main purpose of the forums is to share knowledge and help people out in a friendly atmosphere, whilst building a community.

I've been a bit rude and cheeky before, and in one case the original poster was obviously offended, judging by the tone of his reply. I was being tongue in cheek, and I thought that my response was funny, but the poster obviously didn't agree and both posts were deleted.
I reckon that's fair enough, and I apologized to him in the thread. We shook hands and it led to a much nicer atmosphere than a sarcastic slanging match would have, although I'd agree that they can be quite funny sometimes.

Some people are a bit thin skinned and take offense rather than take a joke and throw it back at you. That's a shame, but the intention here shouldn't be to cause offense to anyone.

I'd noticed in the brief time I spent at the Peanut Gallery that you guys don't seem to care at all about being offensive to people.

I'll just keep pushing the boundaries and hope that the mods don't get sick of me.

    I too dislike this happening.
If somebody asks a question, then they deserve a civil answer. Not a rant about "use the bloody search tool" type of responce.

But, on the other hand, if a member is putting forth false or misleading info, I like to set them straight as false info will lead to the asker of the question being let up the garden path.

Treat everyone as you would like to be treated..
    Hooroo.
    Regards, Trevor

If you'd quoted the rest of that paragraph, then you'd notice a qualification:

You most likely have a much higher opinion of your opinion then everybody else's opinion of your opininon, however, that is not my opinion... I couldn't give a rat's.

Everyone has a high opinion of their own opinion. You'd be in a straight jacket, or you'd need to take lithium for your depression if you didn't.

You guys don't seem to care about how much mud you throw over the fence at the members here though.
That's just my humble opinion BTW.

edit: BTW, I'm not alone in my opinion. Someone who deserves a lot of respect agreed with me, and it gave me a lot of reasurance at the time. He won't throw mud over the fence, but I'd take his opinion over you numbskulls any day. That's all I'm saying on the matter though.

    Us and them.

    Weird times.

A moron is a moron, whether he posts here or there.

Like it or not, some people are downright stupid.

Don't tar everyone with the same brush.

The "do a search mentality" was/is most prevalent here and one I've hated from the beginning.

The other place is not for the easily offended. It is obviously not for all.

The moderators do the best they can. (I don't always agree but who cares)

    We all have our times.

I frequent both places. What's wrong with that?

Just a few conclusions I thought I would post without making this post mindnumbingly long.
