Default New Renovation Forum - COMING SOON

If all goes to plan, some time in the next week we'll be going live with an all new Renovate Forum. The current Home Reno Forums will be split from these forums and made into a whole new forum on its own site.

The new forum is located HERE (threads are currently locked for posting until the whole thing is downloaded onto the new site. Have a bit of a look, see what you reckon and if there is anything you feel needs to be done, added, taken away, etc put it into THIS THREAD and I will look at all suggestions, no matter how weird or whacky (well..... ).

There's a couple of basic skins for now and the site is running the latest version of vBulletin 3.7 There's a few new bits and pieces in the new version so it's worth having a bit of a play around.

To the nitty gritty. All who are registered here up to the time of the split (probably 15th May) will also be automatically registered on the new site. You will however need to login to the new one and if you don't log out should happily be able to switch between the two at will.

A transfer link will be placed in the current Home Reno Forum and this will stay indefinitely. Posts in the new forum won't be shown in the new posts or iSpy lists here. It will be a completely independent forum with its own domain. www.renovateforum.com.au or www.renovateforum.com will both get you there but for now the entry point to the forums is the link in the second paragraph above or click on the header graphic.

We will need to close the Home Reno Forums on both sites for around an hour on the day if the split. This will ensure that we have all the threads and posts transferred without any problems and hopefully all in tact.

    Cheers - Neil

Well done Neil, I reckon that will take a lot of the load from the "main" forums!

I think it's a pity that there isn't a "forum" on the site to allow a complete build history to be followed.

We've seen a few of them here, where the construction process from purchase of site to moving in has been documented, and from my brief look at the new site, it would have to be done on a trade by trade basis.

So... how about a "build diary" forum or some such thing?

    Cheers,

    P

You can do a "go to whoa" with a blog if you like, but most people seem to prefer the openness of the forums, so that would probably work well.

i reckon there should be a seperate part for estimating and quoting types of work and materials. good way for everyone to pick up tips and the different ways people order, measure, quote building work. labour rates, waste allowances for different materials, costings, taking off quantities etc

does this mean that this forum is going to revert to a true woowork forum again and not be cluttered by the handyman crowd?

Some of us will be disappointed that two parts of our lives will have to be split into two separate forums! However the forum list is getting so long that I can see it is time to separate.

Good on you for continuing to grow a fantastic community and an amazingly useful resource.

From strength to strength - you'll be buying out Google next!
    Cheers, Richard

Thanks for all the great work this is such a great resource to so many people .
And i love the fact that after sucking people dry for information i am now able to return the favor .
One section that i have previously mentioned that i think would be good is a Renovation For Sale section as i am sure many peole like myself have things that they have left over from renovating that could be usefully to others .Or a FREE section where people that have something that they no longer need list the item Eg scrap plasterboard ,floor boards ,window and such .
    Regards
    Rob J

Aside from the fact that "woowork" sounds like a candidate for the lovelorn column (), a lot of handymen start that way and gravitate to true woodwork. They can move across as their work evolves.

Meanwhile, I daresay there are far more people interested in renovation than in find wwing. Should be a goer.
    Cheers,

    Bob

The site asks you to return on 15 May and it isn't up. Neil's going for the dramatic last minute opening

EDIT: The site is up, the link http://www.renovateforum.com should be http://www.renovateforum.com/index.php
