And better than a list of url's that most wouldn't bother to browse. Especially for rellies that aren't computer literate (such folk do exist y'know). So, how did you do the composite? I.e. preferred software or online tools?

thanks for the feedback.

The image was made with photoshop but almost any graphics program will do it. It's easier to do with a program that handles layers so you can move the small images around and resize them till they look right.

Bob, in the 2006 Composite, what is the little chisel plane, bottom row, second photo in from the left?

Is that a coffee press in the 06 photo in the bottom left corner? I had a request from a friend at work to make one but hadn't got around to it (I forgot) but your photo has reminded me. Is that a metal base on a wood handle, if so where did you get the base from?

Great idea, looks good. I think they call a composition of pictures such as that a collage.

I have also made quite few other collages, jigs and rigs, hand tools, picture frames (Ha - pictures of pictures!), camping trips, baby photos and one for a friend's 50th where I took a selection of the photos I had of him since school in it and made an A3 size collage - it had something like 40 photos in it - it was a real hit at the party

Yes it is a coffee tamper. Here's a link showing how they are used and made commercially including turning/CNC construction.

The handle in my collage was hand carved from sandalwood to fit my hand - full details posted here. The bases are available at various places on line. I am a real coffee geek so I bought the rolls-royce SS version which has a curved bottom from 5-Senses-coffee - so it was quite expensive ($50). I have seen the flat ones for about $35-40 elsewhere. A whole tamper base + handle can cost anywhere from $2 (all plastic) to over $100!

Lately my metal working turning skills have improved so I could turn my own base but I already have 5 !

A friend of mine has made his own handle and for a base he found it cheaper to buy a whole tamper on special ($20) , throw away the plastic handle and add a new one.

BTW the tamper bases are not all one size, you have to know the size (diameter) of the metal coffee basket. If you make it too small the coffee grounds do not get compacted properly at the edges and you get what is called channeling and a less than satisfactory coffee.

Cheers Bob, I might get my friend to buy the stainless base part and make the handle for it myself. At first I was going to make the whole piece in wood, thinking Gidgee for the base and a lighter colour for the handle but it looks like a metal base is the go. I like coffee but I think you like yours more.

Gidgee would be exceeding cool - especially making the whole thing out of it - ie base and handle. Might just steal that idea myself, maybe using something different like Jam wood!

I like coffee? yeah I guess you could say that!
