5 boxes
I've been faffing around with some impractical boxes on the theme of 'Platonic solids'. These are solid shapes that have a number of identical faces. Here are some results.
The tetrahedron is from purpleheart with silver ash trim- the top lifts off the flat triangular base.
The cube is from various timbers from my offcuts box
The octahedron is from silver ash

Buddy hell Alex, buddy hell. You just can’t get those odd shapes out of your head can you?
I like the 3-D end grain chopping board though.
Have you used the blackwood and myrtle yet?

Ripper stuff Alex. Gives me an excuse to hoard even more small, useful pieces of stuff (offcuts to me - junk to the missus )

G'day AlexS,
Brilliant work! Greenie coming.
That very creative set of ideas has me plotting a number of similar thoughts, which will, hopefully, turn into items of pride as well.
Out of the three I'd vote #1 Pyramid, #2 Octahedron, #3 Cube (although the work in that most have been considerable!)\
Great stuff!

Brilliant designs Alex . Wongo's description of the 3-D chopping board is spot on . I was looking for some repetition in the patterrn to give a clue as to how many pieces of rod you glued together to start off with but gave up;
Do you have a computer program to calculate the the angle for the octohedron etc ?I've just become an optimist . Iv'e made a 25 year plan -oopps I've had a few birthdays - better make that a 20 year plan
