Adelaide scroll exhibit
Well I just recently returned from my trip to Adelaide to attend the australian scroll saw network exhibition that was run along with the T&WWWS. Had a good time over there and saw some great entries in the competition.
I didnt come away with any ribbons, but these are the entries I put in.
Pic1: Stage Coach clock finished with Danish oil, not sure what the burl is in this case.
Pic2: Tulip clock cut from rosewood milled by a friend up near Wauchope, transparent orange plexi backer as the backing, finished in Danish oil also.
Pic3: Rhino cut from red mallee burl with blue plexi backer, finished with Danish oil.
Now to work out what I want to enter in the 2008 exhibitBrett

Well you might not have got a ribbon but the quality of your work shows that your competitiors had to work very hard to surpass you.

Like usual .... really great work Brett.
Missing pictures of those nutslices.... yes... I forgot what they are called, but I thought those miniatures you showed us last year were really great too. Maybe you could post a picture of those? please?

Mmmmm... nice! Having a look at what you entered, I can't help but wonder what the winning entries were like!
If it's anything like turning comp's, they won on li'l technicalities rather than overall looks. I've noticed "People's Choice" items rarely win ribbons in the entered categories.

As with all competitions we have seen this year the bar has been lifted.
We were fortunate to see the scrollsaw exhibits and there was a great range of peices and all very good.
It puts pressure on the entrants to move to the next level and listen to the comments that were made about the ones that missed out on prizes.
It is good to see this craft expanding and it will be good to go the the next one in Albury and see what people have learned from this show and what they try to do next.Jim Carroll

Yeah the judging of the event was quite hard in some categories apparently, a lot came down to the finish and some lost out because brush strokes etc were evident, so it pays to take care with the finish too. It was a good learning experience and much to learn for the next one.

Adelaide scroll exhibit
All good stuff there Brett. Is plexi also known as acrylic? If so, there are some offcuts available on on Ebay right now, it is frosted. The coins in comparison shows me just how big a tagua nut is, very small and tight work. I wish I had been able to get to the show, but got caught up again.
Buzza.

the tagua nut is a little fiddly due to its size but not too hard.Brett

lol didn't know you were bi-lingual like me Brett! lol ( TX and Aussie)
I never used acrylic for scrolling, but when I made a game a while back I went to a place that made acrylic signs and stuff and asked them for off cuts..... got them for nothing!!!! Might want to try something like that in your area next time.
