    Default Apothecary Chest

Apotecary cabinet done in cherry. The plan was from Shopsmithplan Click on archives and go to Jan/Feb03. I made changes to eliminate the nails.I cut dado's in the sides & glued partions in, the dividers wer 3 pcs. instead of 12 and cut into the partions

The nineteen drawers were dovetailed front & back, over 1200 saw cuts. They were made from 1/2' poplar with cherry fronts. the bottoms were 1/8 baltic birch ply. The knobs were glued in with dowels

That's terrific. I want to make one as well (well, my wife dreams of an antique apothecary cabinet).

So .... the dovetails ... handcut? I think I spy lay out cuts on the drawers, so well done!

Any comments/advice about building this from the plans? Anything you would do differently?

    Regards from Perth

Very nice Paul. Just a guess, but I reckon you'd feel quite confident cutting dovetails now?

The plan I used was not the best, everything was put together with nails, which I didn't use. There are errors in the vertical measurments. The Shakers made a lot of cabinets like these . Some of there books may have better plans. The 19 drawers took a few days.
That is a scribe line, I cut the tails on the table saw. I was able to mark & make the 600+ tail cuts in about 30 minutes. The 600+ cuts for the pins took a few days as I had to mark & cut each piece individually. I use a guide similar to Lee Valley's to cut the pins with a Japanese hand saw. I remove most of the waste with the scroll saw.
