Artists Paintbrush box finished... whew
Well finally its done! Over! caput!
Now thankfully I can move on to something different
So with much ado and fanfare here is my sister in Broome the artist (paints and ceramics) paintbrush box!!
Now to extrapolate what its made of...
First the four sides of the box are made of Malay Sepiature then the base of Jarrah and the feet of Huon Pine the small separation divider is two peices of Kapur with Huon guides
Second the lid is Jarrah strips onto Banksia sides in an arc.
Third the hinges... YES I MADE THE BUGGARS!! Jarrah and Sheoak (sheoak being the feature outter timbers) a bit of a hit and miss affair with fitting but its come out well for a first attempt at hinges
Fourth the paintbrush is a turned peice of Jarrah on a pillow of Jarrah the brush is a peice of Hickory veneer with a small blue peice of turquoise at the tip
Fifth the palete is a peice of Birdseye Maple with from top of palete downward Opal Ruby Citrine Amythist and Malachite
Sixth the Initials "JVE" of Huon Pine
So there we have it FINALLY!! I was intending on hanging onto it till Chrissy in the hope she comes down so I can give it to her as a pressy but as shes still pretty uncertain if they are coming or not I decided that it would be better served as an encouragement to do so! So I sent her some pics "BLOODY HELL SHANE!! Thats stunning" was her response so Im chuffed shes chuffed hell the whole worlds chuffed even her bloody highness was chuffed Suggested I put it into the woodwork section at the upcoming Brunswick Show!!
Anyway cheers without your help mates and matesses the hinges at least wouldnt have been done... so THANKS one and all
Cheers

Shane,
I love the hinges. Where did you come up with the design for these? Totally home grown, or were you inspired by another design? Seeing you made them yourself, no sense in hiding them. Great job!

Gidday Matt
The hinges were inspired by the mad Canuks vid from here... but they couldnt be flat hinge pin type and needed to have one crooked end and a smaller flat end for the top cause the box lid overhangs the box a tad
Actually it was one of the easiest things to make

Now Shane - that really IS ART...guess which post I just read?!!
Fantastic work - and no wonder the whole world is chuffed!!! I love all the details & personal touches you added - the little palette and brush, etc.!
Btw - I have a tin TOOL box to store my paintbrushes in - maybe I am totally confused and think my art is WOODWORK?!!
Cheers,
Jill
