    Default Baby cot

    Hi all,
Last November I asked about building a cot in the plans and design section of this forum. As a result I recieved plenty of useful & helpful advice as is normally the case when anyone has need of assistance. Well my project is nearing completion so I thought I would post some pics here. Timber used is Victorian Ash and all joints are mortice & tenon. The rails are morticed into the legs to a depth of 30mm whilst all the slats are morticed into the rails 10mm. The fixed side and the mattress base are attached to the end frames by connecting bolts to allow the unit to be flat packed for storeage with the fixed side also having two dowels in each end to assist proper alignment. The drop side has been made and is in the clamps and should be installed by this weekend. I purchased the rod system for the drop side from Click Systems in Victoria and to make it run smoothly I am turning some bushes out of some lubricated nylon rod I have. these will be 12mm dia and 30mm long with a 8.5 - 9.0mm hole through the centre to accommodate the 8.0mm steel rod. When inserted from the underside of the rail these will not be visible. I undertook this project as our son and daughter-in-law are to have their first child later this month and they asked if I would make an heirloom cot for them to pass down once they had finished with it. As this is our first grandchild how could I refuse. I am not sure how I will finish this as yet as the parents are not sure what colour stain the want. I've heard it needs to be matched to a drawer unit someone is buying for them.
    Cheers Bob W
