Default Barometer Set in Redgum - Finally a decent brand!

Well I finally found a decent quality manufacturer of Barometer/weather instruments after trying all the local ones including the range in the Crbatec catalogue. Turns out that the Jknowles ones (barostar) are made in France like it says on them and appear to be better quality than Carbatec which are stamped with 'England' (I wonder what happened to the words 'Made in'?). I had a customer request that the quality had to be top notch so thats why I searched high and low. I didnt think it would be this hard to find a local supplier so if anyone is interested in weather instruments or clock parts for that matter then stay away from woodwork suppliers and get them from instrument suppliers - if your going to put the effort into the piece theres no point finishing it with a low quality instrument/clock dial.

The edges were 'weathered' as the customer wanted that look using a wire brush wheel.
I'm pretty happy with the Chrissy present and almost didn't want to part with it however i needed the cash.
    P.S. a storm is coming!

Love the rustic look of the wood. Well done.

How much did the barometer, etc. cost?

No actually there is more of them in the wood than what you see on the surface. they are about 40-45mm thick from memory and I bored out deep holes for them. These are the flanged type ones with screws in the front. They are also available without flanges.

I think the humidity one is effected a little by the timber.
The piece of wood I used was lying around on a fire wood pile so I think it was a bit wet from rain. Once it dries right out however I think it should give a more accurate reading.

    Thanks for your comments.

Gorgeous instruments, and nice timber, but I'm not a fan of the rough look here. I think the piece would look better overall with an understated but classy edge treatment -- e.g. thumbnail roundover or ogee.

Still, maybe the customer had his reasons. Might look good in the destination room.

Thanks for that. Looks like your diameters are different sizes. I notice yours are 72mm. The ones I brought were 84mm. How many different diameters do they make do you know? There seems to be a wide variation of sizes for these Barostar brands. Your prices seem a little better than Jknowles as well so I will be sure to keep you in mind for next time. Thanks again for all your comments
