Bedside table from modified Neil Scobie design
Here are some different views of a bedside table that I made for my brother-in-law for Christmas
The table was originally a Neil Scobie design for what he called a "tidy table"
It appeared in the Australian Woodworker issue number 110 (August 2003)
The timber used is Brazillian Rosewood and finished with 3 coats of Tung oilLast edited by Bob Willson; 23rd February 2004 at 05:45 PM.

I like it!
Dovetails - how?
What do the drawers glide on? What stops them from being pulled out?
Love the profile of the legs. How did you make them?

Like the drawers.
I see Mr Fibonacci has been at it again too.

I made the drawer dovetails using a dovetail machine.
I would like to say that I am good enough to cut them by hand but whenever I try this, I have to quietly bury the results in the garden at midnight.
The drawers run on hardwood runners that have been waxed. I don't think that timber movement will be sufficient to make them bind at all, even though when finished there was less than 1mm of play between the drawers and the runners. Nothing stops the bottom drawers coming out but the top shelf has 2 pivoting hardwood buttons about 12mm*12mm wide by 30mm long which are attached to the back of the shelf by a screw. When the bottom drawers are removed the toggles can then be accessed from underneath.
The legs were shaped by using a straight edge that was bent from three points until it looked good. I then made an MDF pattern from this and bandsawed most of the material away before finishing up with LOTS of hand sanding.Bob Willson

Yes, the handles were made by routing finger pulls in the bottom of the handles and then using a straight bit to put the curve in the ends. Nicer finish than brass or some such and heaps cheaper.
