the bench is finally finished
I've referred to the bench project in a number of threads and it is finally finished. The legs and top are from mountain ash, the storage box from hoop pine veneered ply and the drawers are hoop pine with faces from some lovely pieces of highly figured red cedar. The mountain ash is oiled only and the drawer fronts are shellac and Estapol
The vice is a very old Dawn number 9 (of which I have 2) and the bench stop is equally old. They both come from a bench that I bought 30 years ago and the man from whom I bought it said it was more then 50 years old then ... but nobody knows when the vices were fitted.
The design evolved on scribble paper, beer coasters and available timber sizes and all timber was bought rough sawn.
Having never attached picture before, I apologise if I get it wrong now!

Fletty, I can't see anything wrong at all.
Well done. Great job. I will be hoping to do as well myself one day.

You did well Fletty, with the pictures and the bench. Did you make the mallet too??. Nice use of timber. Its stuff like this that keeps me coming back to the BB.

Very nice bench, I like the colours and choice of wood. Well done.
I personally would be too scared to use it, worried about putting that first mark on it.

Looks too good for a workbench, I'd be scared to mark it.
Well done.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

That will look great in your lounge room. What are you gunna use to work on?
I'd be dead scared that I'd put a chisel down on it or nick it with a saw blade. It's a really attractive and beautifully made piece, but practical????
Cheers,
Graeme

Great job
Love the use of the sliding verticle drawers saves filling them with shavings.

Hi Fletty,
Well Done! I really like your idea for the draws that hold your planes and saws.

Excellent work Flettie, I wouldn't be goin within cooee of that bench with a tool, I'd just stand there with a glass of good scotch in my hand marvelling at the beauty of it. Then probably return to my next project being carried out on a Bunnies replica Black & Dekkah work stand / fruit case combo.
I'm a bit worried about the gas stove under the benchtop though. Not thinkin of usin it as a hotplate are you?
Regards,
Barry.
