Default Bessey Clamp Rack - MkII 1of2 WIP

The previous clamp rack I made turned out to be a dud. It was in the way, used too much valuable wall space and was not efficient in storage or for inserting/removing the clamps.

Today I thought about it and decided to use a 3D approach to utilise the space more efficiently. For ease of inserting and removing I wanted something similar to my Quick Grip rack. Essentially, the clamps now sit in three 'layers', which allows me to store 20 clamps in an area 1500 * 600 * 200 and, when finally hung up, the whole shebang screws to the back of an unused door.

Default Bessey Clamp Rack - MkII 2of2

Because of the design of the plastic foot I had to make a number of cuts without weakening the slot too much, I think I managed ok. The Freud dado cutter was a definite plus for this job. (I do like hand tools, but I only had the weekend!)

The way the clamps will finally hang will allow me to grab the handle and pull the clamp free. Eventually I'll colour code the clamps with a dab of paint to make it easier to find the one I need.

Next weekend I'll finish them with BLO and wax, then hang them.

Looks great - forme however it is valuable bench space rather than wall space each to there own workshop I guess - nice cut there though.

So - you going to come up with a design for all of us who bought a heap of Besseys before they came out with the placcy bit on the end? I've seem a bent steel thingy for sale in the US that would fit a single rank of 10(?) K-bodies, but they were over $US20 each.

    Default Finishing up.

The next stages were to put the racks onto the (disused) door. One of the pics is from below showing the 'stepping' which allows the overlay. Up top is the Fclamp stowage, G clamps will be stored in a similar manner.

Now I am happy. All the clamps are in the corner and I can easily reach any one of them, whether it be a K body, F or G clamp. The compressor and welder are parked out of the way and don't obstruct access to the clamps.

Looks like a dungeon from the Inquisition:eek:

Lots of nice clamps, and a handy storage possie for them.

I've got a heap (>50) of 'K', 'G'/'C', & wjatever - all hanging on some overhead angle iron that supports some rails for shed ceiling storage. So far, they've all stayed in place, but one of these days, I suspect, one or more of the mongrels will fall onto the bench. Naturally, making a direct hit onto a newly completed project...

Must do something like your setup. One day.

    Cheers!

It looks positively like the poor relation in comparison, but here's my version!

The story is on my workshop thread, so I won't repeat it here!

Hey Doug! I've used that one for a few years now, but since getting the Bessey's (they are heavy suckers) I've noticed that my upper arms are starting to develop tiny little bulges above the elbows after all the lifting up and down.

In case these were the beginnings of actual muscles, I thought I'd better get them down lower quickly. I'd hate to have worked so hard all my life avoiding any form of muscle development to ruin it now!

So after a flash of inspiration, I used the same basic principle to build a rack for my C-Clamps, the pic may need a bit of concentration to work out though. More info posted on the Playroom thread: http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...t=15330&page=8

    Cheers,

Default Bessey K Body Revo clamps

Hello gents, I notice that the latest Bessey K Body Revo clamps have a different piece of plastic shape at the end of the bar where Groggy suspends his clamps. This piece of plastic easily unclips, and I think it is not suitable for taking the weight of clamp.

Has anyone come up with a suitable storage rack for these later style Revo clamps?
    regards,

    Dengy

I've always hung mine with the head up. At first I just hung them over the rim of a box on top of my mobile rack by the handle, then added a cleat and hung a second layer a bit lower and off set by half a clamp like Groggy has done.

I haven't been able to shoehorn in a third layer as the clamps are too long (or the rack is too short ) I bought a couple of the bent steel racks from Rockler and I now hang the top row of clamps from those, the lower ones are still on the cleats.

I have now reached the point where I need to rebuild my clamp cart to allow more room - I have 4x2 metre K's that need a home, and a few 1500's too.
