    Default Black Wattle Bed

I built this bed from a photo a customer brought in before Christmas, should have matching bedside tables and chest of drawers by February (I hope).
I've got progress photos if anyone wants to see them.

    Very nice!
I like the design, will the side tables have the same curve/shape as the legs of the bed?

Harry72, if it was up to me I would have incorporated curves into the design of the other pieces but the customers have seen a suit and that's exactly what they want. Adding curves always increases the labour content considerably and therefore the price, allot of the work I do has to be a compromise between design and price.

So if I interpret correctly, there was a central "core" of ply with two glued up panels on each side. Thickness in the order of 8 mm? for each plus a 6 mm ply? Just a guess. The edge jointing of the panels didn't cause any problems when bending?
BTW, I like your router trammel. What did you use for a bearing?

Jacko, very close.........the timber panels were 6mm and the ply 4mm hardwood. I wanted the panels as thin as I could get to ease the bending process and 6mm was as thin as I could go through the thicknesser without any tear out (Black Wattle can be a bit cranky)

I glued the panels before bending so I only had to worry about the two panels and the ply........coated all surfaces with West System epoxy and it all glued together very easily on the form.

jacko the bearing is just a timber peg though a 35mm hole in the steel plate

Thanks Keith, that answers my questions.
Over here the Govt. is paying the jobless to slash and burn the Black Wattle as a foreign invader species. Seems a pity as it looks beautiful even if it is cranky.
    Cheers

Keith - Bed looks great! Did you mill the wattle yourself or is it available commercially in Gladstone. Our local mill closed up a couple of months ago and I will now have to look further afield.

TTIT, I bought the timber from Capella, just up the road from you.....good price and great to deal with (sounds like ebay).
The Black Wattle was milled west of Makay. If you want any more info let me know.
