Default Babies change table and bookcase.

These are some pics of babies change table and bookcase that I have just completed. (as you can see I am not much of a photograper) (or woodworker) only new to both of them.

For the changetable I purchased the matress first and then just made 3 boxes to fit around it and screwed four legs onto them and a bit of a safety fence at the top.

The bookcase is made from 19mm vjoint pine for the sides and shelves and 12mm vjoint for the back. A little bit of routing scrolls down the front finished it off.

All pine was purchased from mitre10 and even though I picked the best bitsout of the shelves, some of it was still a bit dodgy. Unfortunately there is not much to choose from in Wodonga in the way of quality timber.

    Geoff,

Thanks and well done. Have the same problem with timber in Cobram.

Is there anything easier done than said?

Vjoint pine... did you mean match board?
All crapiata pine is dodgey, its near impossible to find a peice thats straight and unwarped, unless its straight off the sawmill. I've been buying it by the pack 290x19mm/3mx50pc, if you joint/use it straight after rippin/docking it up it will stay in shape(usually...). I cut the 290's into 3x90mm strips and then reverse over(turn upside down) the centre peice before rejoining back into wide planks that end up around 270mm wide , then they seem to stay flat.

    The projects look good BTW.

They look fine to me, well done.
There must be timber down there somewhere, maybe just not in sizes for furniture. When I was down in Albury/Wodonga for a Scrollsaw expo last year we visited the shop of the wood group hosting the woodwork exhibition down there and they had some great timbers there. Mostly wood turning pieces but also some furniture pieces and other things. Maybe you can check with them to find their sources if you havent done so already.
