Bookshelf/drawer Cabinet
Hi all,
Well, the day has come – I have finally finished a cabinet I started a couple of years ago! The cabinet is a bookshelf/storage unit with the primary function of being able to sit my video projector on top of at the right height for the screen.
While not really a work in progress thread, I have a couple of pictures from the construction.
The carcass is made from jarrah veneered chipboard with solid edging and solid drawer runners. The top and bottom pieces are also solid timber. The drawers are mountain ash with jarrah fronts. The finish is a shellac and wax finish – about 4-5 coats of Ubeaut white shellac, cut back with EEE and finished with traditional wax.
Dovetails were cut with a Gifkins jig.
Pic 1: Cabinet glue up.
Pic 2: Glue up finished. Learned why you should glue up on a dead flat surface – the cabinet side bowed under the weight of all the shelves and caused me some grief.
Pic 3: Drawers under construction – tried to get the half blind dovetail look by gluing false fronts on.
Pic 4, 5, 6 & 7: Various finished pics.
Pic 8: In position with projector.
Pic 9: Next project - my wife isn't particularly happy anymore with my first attempt at the entertainment unit, so next up is one in a matching style.
All comments/criticisms welcome.
Cheers,
Gibbo.

I understand what you mean took a long time to finish. I did the same thing with my project. The problem that I had was that I told the girlfriend that I was making this for her and ok where is it was a common question.

Great job. Nice simple lines.
Now I know what those little blue clamps are for. I've often seen them but never knew.
cheers

Thanks for your comments guys.
Pretty sure that's not the real intended use for those little blue clamps, but they worked a treat anyway

Very nice.
I'm not too well up on Australian timbers, but the warmt and contrast of the drawer fronts against the drawer sides is very attractive..
I know you believe you understand what you think I wrote, but I'm not sure you realize that what you just read is not what I meant.
Regards, Woodwould.

Nice work Gibbo. How many new toys do you require for the entertainment unit. Start working on SWMBO now.
