    Turned this bowl today on my Jet mini lathe. Canary wood, 9x2 inches. Pretty close to the max on the jet.

    Well Midge, I measured mine, it will go 9 3/4"... I guess you're right... a bit weak... I'll try harder next time.

    Nice finish, have a think about how you can may the foot 'lighter' & not so big & heavy looking.

    As a rule of thumb, aim at making the diam of the foot 1/3 the diam of the bowl/platter & see if you can make it a bit lower.

    I'm guessing they didn't use canary wood for the props in mines...

    I can just imagine - the first hint of gas, and all the wooden supports are the heck outta there!
