    Default Box Photos

I posted some photos of band sawn boxes here on the Tasmanian Timber & Working with Wood Show thread.

Attached below are some additional boxes from our Father & Daughter combination also on show.

The last two photos, violin shaped boxes came about from a demonstration we had at Woodcraft Guild meeting some months ago, where a local violin maker came along and demonstrated how he made violins. Graham borrowed the shape template and these beautifull boxes were the result.

They all have veneered fronts, the birds-eye huon pine box sold today for $350.00.

Wow! Do you do this for a living? These boxes are really a cut above. Spectacularly good.

I'd love to know how you did the curved checkerboard.

    Instant greenie from me.

I wish they were mine, no they are the work of two fellow Guild members, Graham & Tracey. Graham is retired and loves experimenting with new methods and his daughter Tracey is learning rapidly. She is concentrating on bandsawn boxes at this stage, is working part-time but also supplying three outlets with her boxes.

The curved chequerboard is cut on the bandsaw with two contrasting timbers on top of each other, cut then swapped top for bottom, glued up and cut, alternated and glued again.

    Plain as mud, isn't it.

    Didn't understand a bleedin' word...but I'm still in awe.
