Building an entertainment center from start to finish
G'day all. I would like to share one of my recent projects with all of you. It was nearly to big to build on my Verandah. I had to slide it out the window and back in to turn the blasted thing around.

Doing a shop drawing always seems to help me a lot. Easier to erase a pencil line than to re cut a mistake in the shop. And makes material take offs easy to figure.

I like to build all the drawers first and get them out of the way. They take up a lot of space in such a tiny shop. 2.4 x 11.6 meter verandah. Hardly enough room to sling a cat.

Since my work table is only 1800 long i had to make a couple of matching saw horses to support my work. I must confess i am getting better at talking in metric. But i still have to think about it. Ill admit its much easier dealing in 10ths. But it hard to teach an old dog new tricks

Getting close to being ready for stain and sealer here.

Note the clamp fixture at the bottom of the upper unit. This was done to insure structural Integrity during handling while staining. It most likely wasn't needed. But i didn't want to take any chances. Now its time for my apprentice to get at it. Actually i did most of the staining. But she did a lot of the sanding after we applied the sealer. One coat of sealer and two coats of finish.

Thanks for letting me share this with all of you. I hope you like it.

Another great work in progress. Once again thank you for sharing.
I formatted your post a little by hitting a hard return after the photos so the post is a little easier to read.

Love the entertainment unit Charlee43. The finish looks really good. Can you let us know what products you used?
Thanks.

G'day Safari. Sorry it took me so long to answer you post. I forgot what the material was and had to have a look. The stain is Cabot interior the color is Jarrah. the lacquer sanding sealer is Hichem (one coat) and the finish is also Hichem 60% sheen. (2 coats) Mix with lacquer thinner for best results in a HVLP gravity fed Spray gun ( high volume low pressure) With the sealer i used a mixture of 50% thinner and 50% sealer. With the finish its was more like 60% thinner and 40% finish. Use only enough air to more the material. Open the liquid untill you achieve a fan approx. the size of your hand. This will help a lot to reduce over spray on your previous pass.Experiment with these percentages. Some product act differently. Even a 70% thinner and a 30% finish will work. Spray a piece of scrap as you set up your gun. When you see what you like...go for it. Sanding between coats. I used 220 grit. Just hand buff until you produce a white lacquer dust. Over sanding ( sanding through your stain) will make extra work for you as you will have to tough it up. Staining. I use a spirit based wiping stain with a soft cloth applied by hand. ( rubber gloves are not expensive). Thank you for your interest. I hope this is helpful.
